About
Our Mission
The Universal Open Textbook Initiative (UOTI) was founded by Vatsal to make high-quality educational resources freely accessible to every learner, everywhere.
We envision a world where everyone, regardless of geography, language, or income, can access the same high-quality educational materials.
The Problem
Around 40% of learners worldwide cannot access education in a language they understand — in some low-income countries, that figure reaches 90%. High-quality open textbooks exist, but most are in English and scattered across platforms with no translations into underserved languages. UOTI exists to fill this gap. (Source: UNESCO)
What We Do
We address this through four pillars:
-
Curation
We select full-course textbooks authored by credentialed experts, with exercises, clear licensing, and consistent quality standards — no mindless aggregation.
-
Translation
We translate complete textbooks into underserved languages using a human-and-AI workflow that combines domain glossaries, neural machine translation, and professional review.
-
Curriculum Alignment
We work with ministries of education and local universities to create country-specific editions customized to national curricula.
-
Open Access
Everything is free to download, share, and adapt under open licenses. No account required — find what you need in fewer than five clicks.
